week 3 analysis Zong!

To be completely honest, when  I first began reading Zong! I wasn't very interested and that's shocking for me because topics like this usually interest me. That's when i skipped over the the beginning and went straight to the weird text with scrambled words. Once I began reading that I had a better understanding of what was actually going on. Then I re read the entire thing from beginning to end and completely understood and was very intrigued this time. It angered me that this is how African Americans were really once treated. As if they weren't human beings that had a life, families, and were like everyone else. That someone could have no conscious of killing hundreds of lives for money.  The concerns that I'm responding to is the fact that a captain was okay with killing 150 slaves to collect insurance money. The tone of my response is anger and confusion, Doesn't make sense how some people could have and still have so much anger and frustration on a certain race and skin tone, It will always and forever be something that I will never understand. The author of Zong! used a lot of repetition in her work to point out key points and to put emphasis on certain things, For example she used "water" a lot. From my perspective it was used because of the drowning but also because they weren't getting any. I learned through this response that even though this happened hundreds of years ago and although African Americans aren't enslaved anymore, this is still going on in the world in 2016. African Americans are still being singled out and killed for no reason and nothing is happening to change it,
