Hamilton, an incredibly popular musical starting from last year, is pretty much a derivation from one of the richest stories itself; history. The play has many contemporary themes that people of the present can relate to, including women's rights, pop tong twisting music, and real life people given personalities and tropes that fit their role in the storyline.
A remix I would like to see is if the whole setting and characters are in college. Where Hamilton is the loudmouthed kid who wants to go to law school, Eliza Schuyler and her sisters are the queens of the school, Thomas Jefferson is a rival of Hamilton's who argues everything from the color of the sky to politics with Hamilton, Aaron Burr is the longsuffering roommate of Hamilton with his girlfriend Theodosia, and George Washington is a professor of the university.
Just, this would be amazing. And the whole play would have college drama with intersecting relationships that focus on Angelica Schuyler's crush on Hamilton and having it addressed, or Aaron Burr's admiration but bafflement at how attention seeking Hamilton is but quietly hangs in hte background biding for his 'moment' to come, and Hamilton's biggest enemy being himself. Also, having political jabs included with immigrant issues that affect people even now being brought up in the play (Hamilton was an immigrant from the Caribbeans in real life & play), how ambition can be damaging yet needed in this modern sized world, and the disparaging difference between the rich and the poor who barely make it through dozens of scholarships.
Everyone in the audience being aware that the characters are all historical figures while they keep their names, but are introduced to the idea of what these people would be like if they had grown up in modern times with the same or at least similar types of hardships they faced 300 years ago, proving that some things never change and make them maybe even more relatable than ever. (Also, so many insinuations or inside jokes or even breaking the fourth wall on the fact that the characters know to some degree that they're all named after famous historical figures, like Alexander Hamilton and George Washington.)(cackle, I love this so much)
I would maybe write a few songs (though I'm uncertain if I could pull this off) twisting the lyrics to fit the College AU situation instead. For example, for 'Right Hand Man' song in Hamilton, when introducing George Washington, introduce him as a professor but is still teasingly called 'General' instead to his students.

Ladies and gentlemen
Here comes the general
The moment you’ve been waiting for
Here comes the general
The pride of [college name]
Here comes the general
George Washington!

Have I done something wrong, sir?
On the contrary
I called you here because I liked what you had to say
Your reputation precedes you, but I have to laugh
Sir?
Hamilton, how come no one likes you in the staff?
Sir
Don’t get me wrong, you’re a young man, of great renown
I know you're fearless in what you say and write down
Nathaniel Green and Henry Knox wanted you're favor
To be their so called pride so they get credit? I don't think so.
Why’re you upset?
I’m not
It’s alright, you want to fight, you’ve got a hunger
I was just like you when I was younger
Head full of fantasies of getting all you desire?
Yes
Achieving is easy, young man
Living is harder
