Anna Nemeckova Week 5 Analysis

I mostly responded to the how much she went into both the personal aspect and the a few other perspectives of the color blue.  As soon as I saw how omnipresent the color blue was in her life, my obsession with clouds immediately came to mind. I decided to write about clouds in a similar fashion, and type out my analysis and the different perspectives on clouds. Her style of writing, that being clear and detailed sentences that still left a lot to be interpreted, appealed to me deeply as someone who was raised to appreciate crisp and clear sentences.
I’ve realized that, while writing on a computer is the process I am the most comfortable in doing (since I do it so much for school anyway), there is a major limitation that I find in doing it, which is the fear of the blank page. I was constantly second guessing myself before even starting to write, especially since the prompt was basically asking us to reveal our personal thoughts on something that might appear as silly or even crazy to some people. That’s part of the reason why the tone of the piece is a bit on the self-deprecating side. I decided to do that because, while clouds to me are extremely beautiful, a part of me still felt slightly ridiculous writing about them.
I learned from this particular assignment how much guts it takes to explicitly put your perspective out there in a meaningful and clear way, and that I am not the only one with doubts about how much I should share about my life in my work. The author of Bluets herself stated she might regret writing something that was so revealing of herself and her thoughts, yet she wrote and published the book anyway, with it containing explicit detail of her sexual fantasies. It almost makes me feel like a baby for even feeling slightly self-conscious when writing about clouds.
